With only 30 days before we begin reaping the bene fits, we hear there are some who arc still grousing about the price of the new Polk County High School. Their objection does seem to us to be related to price, not cost. And cost is what those looking to the future consider. What would it have cost to cheapen our investment in Polk County? Author John Ruskin wrote: "It is unwise to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing what it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohi bits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that then you will have enough to pay for something better." All children are wel come. -Community Reporter Music In The Park At Stearns, Saturday Polk County's own Jeff and Cindy Walker will bring their country music show to the Bandstand at Stearns Park in Columbus on Sat., Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. The Walkers, a brother and sister duo, were crowd pleasing favorites last year at the band stand with their classic country voices and smooth harmonies Saturday Night Music in the Park performances are slated every Saturday night at 8 p.m. through the summer season performances are free to the public with the traditional passing of the hat" to benefit the musicians. Box 308 Columbus, N.C. 28722. -Community Reporter Chris Suber High School Graduate Chris Suber graduated from E.E. Smith Senior High School, Fayetteville, N.C. Graduation ceremonies were held in the Cumberland County Auditorium on June 2, 1992. Chris received a four-year baseball scholarship to Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Va. Chris attended schools throughout the United States and Europe to include Green Creek Elementary, Polk Central and Landrum high schools. Chris is the son of SSG Rob ert L. Suber of the U.S. Army, Carolyn Suber-Lowrence and has one sister, Candace Suber of Fayeteville, N.C. He is the grandson of the Rev. and Mrs. James Lowrance of Green Creek and Mrs. Cathe rine Canady of Tryon. Great- grandson of Mrs. Irene Twitty of Columbus, Mrs. Alice Low rance of Saluda and Ms. Iona Fox of Tryon. New Arrival David and Donna Shehan of Mill Spring are parents of a son, John Michael, born July 23 at Memorial Mission Hospital. He weighed 4 lbs., 4 ozs. and is 17 1/2 inches long. (He also arrived 7 weeks early). Maternal grandparents are Jack and Linda Billings of Spartanburg. Maternal great- grandmother is Lois Sawyer of Spartanburg. Paternal grandparents are Daniel and Ruby Shehan of Mill Spring. Paternal great- grandmothers are Nettie Shehan of Mill Spring and Corell Camp of Green Creek. - Community Reporter Red Fox W.G.A. The event for July 30 was low net, odd holes only, using 1/2 handicap. Winners were: Class A, Dee Griffith; Class B, Tie between Jean Masologites and Nancy Symmes; Class C, Gina Petura; Class D, Shirley Herz feld. Willa Reed chipped in on #15 to win the chip-in pot. Thursday, Aug. 6 will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun, arranged foursomes, and the event will be best ball of the foursome.
